In general
Testing unit type TPE 01 is a testing device for testing and monitoring the response behavior of safety shut-off valves and SBVs and/or their control devices with upper switch-off.
Functional description
To carry out the test, the ball valve of the testing unit is closed. Pressure to the control unit of the SAV is increased using one of the MICRO TEST pres- sure connection couplings. The second MICRO TEST pressure connection serves as parallel connection of a control manometer.
Features of the testing unit TPE01
For reasons of safety, the lever on the testing unit is protected against unwanted operation through touching or vibration of the equipment by a ”spring-secured handle“. To operate this lever, it has to be lifted about 5 mm before movement is possible.
The handle is brought to the closed position to carry out the test. The ball of the shut-off valve in the testing unit is pivoted by means of a specially developed sealing system so that in this position as return flow preventer, it does not allow the presented test pressure to flow through the measurement line to the gas pressure regulator. At the same time the ball serves as ”overpressure valve“, which guarantees that the exit pressure to be monitored has uninterrupted access at any time to control unit even during the testing procedure. The closing mechanism of the handle and the thereby rotation of the ball to initiate the test sequence results in a cleaning effect which prevents depositing of dust. The unlimited function, according to the guidelines laid down in DVGW worksheet G 491 is thereby guaranteed at all times. Moreover, the function of the SAV is thereby provided for when the lever is accidentally not reset to the original position and/or not opened after the test.
Switchable measuring lines (operating & start-up leads)
In the case of switchable measuring lines connections, the testing unit can be put to use in combination with the 3-way multi-way ball-valve MLU (Datasheet: MLU).
Response pressure of the integrated overpressure valve (return flow preventer)
The response pressure of the integrated overpressure valve of this testing unit is, if required, to be taken into consideration for the differential pressure.

For a switchable measuring line (measuring line “Operation“ and measuring line “Start-up“) a multi-way ball-valve with negative overlap is fitted. This multi-way ball-valve type MLU ensures that the measurement connections are not interrupted in any valve setting.
Accidental use is thereby impossible.
