    In general

    The overpressure protection device type MPV-BP/AP protects downstream pressure measuring devices against unwanted excessive pressure increases and/or overpressure. In the field of instrumentation, pressure and/or pressure peaks can appear due to a number of reasons, which can considerably exceed the measurement range of the manometer etc.

    Design and function

    Upstream needle valve
    Gas to be measure enters through a bore in the housing to the shut-off valve. This shut-off valve can close or protect the direction of measurement, e.g. when testing pressure or when exchanging the overpressure protection measuring device.

    Overpressure protection measuring device
    The gas to be measured passes out of the shut-off valve into the measu- ring element. As long as the measured pressure is lower than the pressure acting on the coil spring on the piston i.e. the membrane, the valve stays at thru-flow position, i.e. it lets the pressure on the downstream measuring system (manometer, pressure measurement cell etc.) through.
    Should the measured pressure become higher than the coiled spring pressure, then the valve is closed by the action of the piston and/or the membrane system. Access to the measuring device is interrupted and this protects against unwanted pressure increases.

    Prerequisites for problem-free function

    Problem-free function demands dirt and/or particle-free gas. The presence of dirt in any form damages the surface of O-ring gaskets. Problem-free function and/or closure of the valve is no longer guaranteed.
